Shanghai

Shanghai, a world-famous metropolis and one of the three municipalities under the direct jurisdiction of the Central Government, is situated on the central coastline of China's mainland. It serves as a gateway to the fertile Yangtse River valley. The city has a total area of 6340 square kilometers with a population of 14.15 million.
Shanghai has a sub-tropical and maritime climate, temperate but humid, with four distinct seasons. The hottest month is July with an average temperature of 28 degree and the coldest month is January with an average temperature of 3 degree. Great change has taken place in Shanghai after the founding of the people's Republic of China in 1940. Today it is an important base for industry, commerce and science and technology in China. Shanghai has a favourable geographical location and is easily accessible by air, land and sea. Being an important hub of transportation, it serves as a major port for foreign trade. The Shanghai harbour, a leading port in China of international fame, has a harbour area of 60km in length, navigable for 10000 ton ships all year round. It has trade relations with more than 160 countries and regions in the world.
